the batam trip, featuring the holy rock.
Sunday, October 18, 2009 8:34 PM
i have to admit, the camp was totally awesome.except for the tiny fact that i was sick during most of the camp. but whatever.
and since i am in the mood for blogging, let me give you a pretty detailed account of the camp, from my point of view.
day one
i arrived in school pretty early, carrying my not-that-heavy (yet) bag/haversack and went to the hall, talked, then went on the bus to harbourfront, sat with chloe :D. when we went to the ferry, sat with, um, i think it was with sharmaine, melissa and chloe :3 and now, a candid photo of melissa -cough-

something she loves more than sex.

giffy. kind of cute, don't you think?
so, when we reached there, walked in the rain and some diluted mud to the resort and did tent pitching and field cooking. kind of decent food. then drank the orange squash drink of something. tasted so sweet if you didn't put any water inside. lol. after that we went to the rooftop, did some games etc, and then went down again. we were all fighting for ice cubes when they told us to get our water bottles, it was damn hilarious. i bet you the ice had sand inside.
we just sat in the lobby and some of us took our small bags and then we headed for nagoya hills shopping mall/centre/center. who was in my shopping group? sigh. lol. mostly crazy and annoying non-pizza eating boys. 'cos we went to pizza hut and i ordered and shared pizza with chloe, joan, xinxuan, shawn teo (LOL.) and our assigned trainer, who goes by the name of wing. the rest of the members, frederick, stanley, milton, danry and kaijun either ordered spaghetti or some other noodle-y stuff like carbonara or bolognese. after that, rushed to the supermarket and bought stuff. obviously most of them bought gum, but i didn't feel like buying them at all so i just bought chocolates, instant noodles, and water (we had learnt that water there was DAMN precious by then). 5 bars of chocolates for my mum is a lot. but it was cheap, lol. spent 54,000+ rupiah at the supermarket, that isn't a lot anyway.
when we were going back on the bus, called my parents using christina's phone (i owe you 10 dollars for the call right?) talked to my dad, lol, nothing much. then we were allocated to our rooms. the trainer ahmad called me MARIA and like practically the 1e1 people were laughing, so was i, then the peter low go tell them don't laugh. LOL. i myself was laughing o_o''
shared the room with christina and sharmaine, on the 1st floor and had a door connected to xin xuan, joan and chloe's room. our room was weird, cos the wardrobe, bed frames, lamps, mirrors, curtains etc (you get my point) were all blue, and it was pleasant, to tell the truth. BUT we had no minibar, and i had to store my chocolates in there, so thanks to chloe who agreed to let me put my chocolates in her room's minibar.
then had this lecture thing, then went back to our rooms. one more thing, most rooms had one double bed and a cheapskate mattress, but my room had 2 single beds and one cheapskate mattress. so i slept with sharmaine on my single bed :3.

sharmaine putting on her socks for the briefing i think...
day two
woke up, bathed, sat on the crappy red-ants territory in the sand pit. had breakfast, and caught a flu, then went jungle trekking. i have to say, this was one of the most unexpectedly fun parts of the camp. we stepped on lots and lots of mud, got our shoes and socks all dirtied, and did river crossing. the first time we did it, christina, who was in front of me, fell in the water. i was stunned, lol. the second time we did the river crossing, it was funny cos the water level was high and i felt like i was floating o_o'' somehow we survived that. then did raft building, let's skip the explanation, then went back our room and bathed, and washed our shoes and socks, put them to dry in the balcony, etc. then left for the orphanage school. did painting of a classroom with our hands, omg, it was a whole new experience to be piak-ing your hands oh the wall with green paint on your hands, lol. in the end my hair, hands, legs, shirt, shorts, socks, shoes all kena-ed green paint. i was damn worried if the paint couldn't go off my hair. ah, the vain side of emily -_-''
now, here comes the really random photos.

lol, this just doesn't look right. and this is emma trying to look cute? or trying out for some "i-support-world-peace" competition o_o''

kimberly looks dazed and confused much?

strike a pose, melissa.

happy

this scene looks like it's taken straight out of a korean tearjerker drama. except that CHRISTINA is kind of laughing as she hugs MELISSA and SHERILYN is giggling or something. lol.
now, the highlight of the post:
THE HOLY ROCK : PART ONE.
melissa gets cranky as she holds the holy rock.
melissa again, this time trying to bury the holy rock.
THE HOLY ROCK : PART TWO
this time with no photos, they're all with christina.
when we were sitting down under the hot glaring sun, melissa found another holy rock and me, christina, kimberly, emma, magdalene and herself started to make some shrine for it. magdalene decorated most of it, while i threw sand around the shrine and to everyone else to "bless" them. in the end we put a curse, that is, the person who steps on it will die a terrible death. that person? none other than chan junhong, the asshole. he just crushed the whole thing when we all had to stand up, lol.
then went back to the hotel, sort of bathed, then had d&d, and after that had free time. changed from jeans into fbt shorts and just roamed around the whole place. then found melissa, kimberly, emma and magdalene on the swing outside the entrance or something and sat with them and talked.

SHERILYN was in this picture before she left. lol.

KIMBERLY yakking away.
then got off the swing alone 'cos i wanted to vomit. it was worse than sitting on a ferry. ARGH, the sheer horror. went to samantha's room for godknowswhat (samantha later told me that i looked damn pale and was trembling then) and then went to my room, found christina alone there, and just started packing my bag. then soon, sharmaine came back and then packed some more and we all slept. that trainer wing just had to wake me and sharmaine up when he rang the doorbell thrice. bloody crap.
day three
christina's alarm was like half an hour or 45 mins earlier of when we were supposed to wake up (we had to assemble at 8am batam time, agreed to wake up at 7am, her alarm was at 6.15am, LOL) but then we went back to sleep.
soon.....
-loud alarm ringtone-
me : -dazed and confused- -wakes up- CHRISTINA, CHRISTINA!
christina : -wakes up- huh???
me : your phone's alarm!
christina : eh emily, it's your phone's.
LOL I GUESS I MUST HAVE BEEN DAMN TIRED OR SOMETHING.
then bathed and everything and then ate cereal for breakfast, went back to the room, took our bags, blah blah blah, took a damn tiring walk back to the ferry terminal with now VERY heavy bags. then they settled my passport stuff, then sat on the top deck of the ferry with fionn and samantha and emma, i think. listened to music with fionn using her mp3 player. then when we were around sentosa there, the ferry stopped 'cos the police coast guards wanted to check the ferry. i started to get dizzy. blargh.
the rest needs no explanation. to sum it all up, we sat down at harbourfront like crazies, went back to school, waited for awhile, and then went home. tadah.
some photos of my hotel room :

the bed. with christina lying down. lol.

the nice door. random.

a photo of the room. random again.

christina's bed and mine too.

this photo makes me look kind of tall, no? i don't think so.

sharmaine drying her shoe or something.

sharmaine packing o_o''
and all that's left is the sweet (and not so sweet) memories of the batam trip. i truly enjoyed myself even though i was sick.
i took more or less two hours to write this whole thing. well i guess it's worth it.
